About us
Te Kāinga is a partnership between the Council and private building owners to provide high quality, family-friendly, long-term rental housing to workers in Wellington.
The programme has no impact on rates and was identified as a priority project in Our 10-year Plan–Housing Strategy (2018-2028).
Council has committed to providing 1,000 Te Kāinga affordable rental apartments in the next five years.
As part of the agreement, the building owners are responsible for construction and maintenance of the apartments and Council are responsible for the tenancy management.
This makes it cost neutral for the Council as we receive a tenancy management fee from the developer. If you are a building owner or developer interested in taking part in this programme contact Build Wellington’s Housing Development Team.
